Pretty awesome model.
I knew how huge the 4x4^2 G class is, but it isn't until I put this model next to Range Rovers, Land Cruisers and a lifter Defender model that I realised how insanely tall and wide it really gets.
In fact I'm even a little sorry I got this extreme version model. I wanted to complete the collection of off roaders yet the 4x4^2 is incomparable with everything else and stands out (literally).
That said, it's no fault of the model itself. It is sublime. The yellow metallic paint is great throughout and shines wonderfully. The carbon fiber decals are also pretty good throughout (on the fenders and front of the roof bar, mainly). The detail of the door hinges is great and all 5 doors are held in place securely with magnets. The white and black interior provides great contrast, making all the interior detail that more visible. Even the engine bay is pretty detailed with more great hinge work. All grilles are open mesh and the underbody is also detailed with rubber mudguards.
The only small details that are a little annoying are:
- the working suspension is pretty tough (on such an extreme off roader, I'd prefer a softer suspension, say like on an LCD Defender Works V8)
- slightly loose opening fuel door (even some of the door hinges are a little loose, but given how the doors are held by magnets, not an issue)
- not an easy manipulation considering how heavy the model feels (the frame with the rear bar are metal), how huge it is and how many plastic pieces stick out around it like the roof rack, flared fenders, running boards with engine exhausts beneath them. I'm permanently worried I'll break them off when handling the model.
