While it comes packaged in the same box as the RR Phantom VIII and is supposedly made by Kengfai as well, this model Cullinan is a completely different beast.
Where the Phantom is exquisitely detailed with nonexistent panel gaps, the Cullinan is a little less precise (some panel gaps are not exactly flawless). But where the Phantom only really has a magnetic spirit of ecstasy and umbrellas in the doors, the Cullinan has so, so many features.
Opening sunroof? Check. Opening fuel door? Check. Sliding front row chairs? Check. Folding tables for rear seats? Check. Opening front and rear armrests? Check. Folding and sliding picnic chairs in the trunk, hidden in their own box on the floor? Check. And yes, you still have the umbrellas as well.
And when it comes to the light blue metallic paint, nothing to complain about either. The double white coach line is also well applied (I somehow missed that on the model photos and was pleasantly surprised) and the multispoke Trimestre 24 inch wheels are gorgeous and have the exact rght size as well.
Honestly this Cullinan is more precisely crafted and has more features than the Kyosho Phantom VII, so I guess the higher price is fully justified in comparison. Definitely recommend this model if you can afford it.
Good model with a lovely champagne gold paint. Particularly the beige interior is gorgeous.
That said some of the panel gaps aren't that tight and the working suspension is limited.
Unexpectedly great model. Greatly detailed and soft working suspension with particularly impressive steering linkages on the front axle. The tan interior is luxuriously flocked. Accurate hinges on the doors, bonnet and rear hatch (with separate opening window and lower section). Panel gaps are minuscule (suction tool is pretty much needed on the doors). Even the engine is fully realised and lovely detailed.
I just wish it was painted yellow instead of the slightly subdued blue (Tuscany blue).
But definitely a great model, definitely recommend.
Great model that comes as Dealer Edition. The manufacturer is Paragon. Great level of detail and OK quality. Only downside is the doglegs on hood but common for a budget model. The package was gone for two months before it showed up at my doorstep, probably due to new custom regulations- but SAM was very helpful all thru 👍🏻
All too often, one overlooks small defects on many models simply because they may be negligible given the price of the models, because they are all too common on models or because they are simply too little to even notice most of the time. Be it uneven trims or panel gaps, wobbly wheels, small paint defects, glue residues, etc.
But that is simply not the case with this (presumably Kengfai) Rolls Royce Phantom VIII model.
I haven't found any, however small, issues with this model. Panel gaps are uniform between doors, hood and trunk. All opening pieces are solid and hold well in both closed and open positions. The wheels are magnificent in that they are very solid, no wobble of any kind, yet still rotate freely at the lightest touch (around stationary center caps, as befits Rolls Royce). And they still have a soft working suspension to them while the front wheels smoothly steer as well.
The interior is also gorgeous with detailed dashboard, door cards (including umbrellas for the rear doors), seats, lush carpeting and even a lovely headliner including a subtle starry skies replica. There's minuscule plaques on the pillars and detailed scuff plates.
Front grilles are perforated and show the radiators behind them. There's even a perforated grille above the engine compartment below the wipers.
So, while this model is very expensive, it sure feels worth every penny with the overall detail, quality and solidity of it all.
One disadvantage over Kyosho Rolls royce models, though, lies with limited features. Besides the above mentioned umbrellas and the very useful magnetically attached Spirit of Ecstasy (or alternatively a closed panel, if you so desire), there are no more special features like opening passenger compartments, folding armrests or sunshades etc.
But again, very rarely have I seen a model so solid. If you can afford it and don't require fully movable interior compartments etc., definitely recommend.
